How Much Can you REALLY do Yourself?

I was just hoping to get some feedback from those who are going through budget cuts like myself. Does anyone have any examples of projects they have been able to do without compromising the quality of the reception?

I understand your position. We are arranging our own centerpieces and tablecloths. We are having a beach wedding and decided to use a medium size square vace with white orchids inside, two star fish on each side, and a elegant tablecloth. It is simple but beautiful. It looks great! Good luck!

I have a friend who was going thru the same thing. We helped her cut costs in our own little creative ways. For example, we have a friend who is great with a sewing machine. She went to a local craft store and bought about 10 yards of tulle (in case she messed up), a small hair comb, and a can of gold spray glitter. She took two seperate layers of tulle and folded it over and weighted it down w/ jars of baby food (thats all we had handy)while she trimmed the edges in a semi circle. She gathered the tulle at the top in the center and sewed it to the comb. She then took the veil outside and lightly sprayed it with the gold glitter (she told me she took it outside b/c the breeze helps to take some of the excess spray so it is not bombarded w/ sparkles). Needless to say, when paired with her tiara, it looked like the $250 veil she wanted, but made it for about $10. Do-It-Yourself doesn't get any better than that!
